Ltte leader was dead .....
Tuesday, May 19, 2009 Posted by Prasana at 7:02 AM | Labels: LTTE Chief Prabhakaran Shot DeadSri Lankan army chief Gen. Sarath Fonseka says troops have found the body of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran (COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP)). a day after he was killed in the Tamil Tigers' last stand against government forces in the north, the military said. This is a braking news.
Footage broadcast on the private Swarnawahini television station showed a body that appeared to be the rebel leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran, still dressed in his dark green camouflage uniform, laid out on the grass as soldiers stood near by. A blue cloth covered the top of his head, apparently to cover a bullet wound there. His open eyes stared straight up and his face appeared bloated.
The Srilankan government had announced Prabhakaran's killing on Monday, but later said they had not yet found his body. A rebel official abroad denied Prabhakaran was killed and said he was in a safe place. As speculation grew about Prabhakaran's fate, army chief Gen. Sarath Fonseka announced that his body had been recovered.
"A few hours ago, the body of terrorist leader Prabhakaran, who ruined this country, was found in the battleground," he told state television. "I take responsibility for this statement."

The LTTE chief Prabhakaran body has also been found by the Sri Lankan army, which has identified the body. This news first announced by Sri Lanka Government channel (today).
Prabhakaran and his top aides came out of their last hiding place in a small convoy of van and an ambulance and tried to drive out of the war zone, but were gunned down, he said. The army is withholding an official announcement till a DNA test of the bodies is conducted.
The Tamil Tiger chief was killed with two others, who are yet to be identified but believed to be his closest associates - LTTE intelligence chief Pottu Amman and Sea Tigers' chief Soosoi.
The deaths of the top LTTE leaders came a day after Tamil Tigers conceded defeat saying the decades-old battle has reached its "bitter end" and they have decided to "silence" their guns. The army said that its special forces had encircled Prabhakaran, Pottu Aman and Soosoi who were boxed into a 100m x 100m area.
