Box-office results for this Diwali!

Among the Diwali releases of this year, the front runner is Suriya starrer ‘Aadhavan’. Chennai Box-office collection of this Sun Pictures production in Chennai alone for October 17th and 18th is 54 lakhs. In fact this is more, when we compare Aadhavan’s revenue with the collection generated by ‘Kanthaswamy’ and ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ in it’s first two days.

‘Peranmai’, the action entertainer of ‘Jayam’ Ravi which was released one day before Diwali is in the second place as of now! And the revenue the film generated in the first three days is 26 lakhs. But, when we see the hype created before the film’s release, this returns is very less. And, as ‘Peranmai is getting good remarks from the audience, distributors feel that there is a bright probability for ‘Peranmai’ to push ‘Aadhavan’ back.

‘Jaganmohini’, the old wine with Namitha as its glossy new bottle is the third in the Diwali race! The film has earned 11 lakhs in the first two days of its release.

‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ has touched 4.26 crores at the end of the 4th week after its release. Since it managed to earn just 2.4 lakhs on 17th and 18th of October, the film was pushed to 4th place.

நாட்டின் எத்தனையோ மத்யமர்களில் ஒருவரான கமல்ஹாஸன் இரவு பகலாக தனக்குத் தெரிந்த நவீன தொழில்நுட்பங்களைக் கொண்டு வெடிகுண்டு தயாரிக்கிறார். ஒரு நாள் காலை அவற்றைக் கருப்புப் பைகளில் வைத்து காவல் நிலையம், ரயில், ஷாப்பிங் மால் என நகரின் முக்கியப் பகுதிகளிலெல்லாம் வைக்கிறார்.

பின்னர் கூலாக கடைவீதிக்குப் போய் மனைவி போட்டுக் கொடுத்த லிஸ்ட்படி காய்கறிகள் வாங்கிக் கொண்டு, பாதி கட்டி முடித்த ஒரு கட்டடத்தின் உச்சிக்குப் போகிறார். ஒரு பலகையை விரித்துப் போட்டு, கையோடு கொண்டுவந்திருக்கும் அத்தனை கம்ப்யூட்டர் சாதனங்களையும் பரப்பி, அசெம்பிள் செய்து, சற்றே நிதானமாகி மாநகர காவல்துறை கமிஷனர் மாரார் எனும் மோகன்லாலுக்கு ஒரு போன் செய்கிறார். தான் குண்டு வைத்திருக்கும் விவரங்களை தெளிவாக சொல்லிவிட்டு, டக்கென்று போனை வைத்துவிடுகிறார்.

அடுத்த நொடி கமிஷனர் அலுவலகம் அலர்ட்டாக, அது முதல்வர் அலுவலகம் வரை எதிரொலிக்கிறது. உள்துறைச் செயலாளர் லட்சுமி வருகிறார்.

மீண்டும் கமலிடமிருந்து போன்…

இம்முறை தனது செயலின் நோக்கத்தைச் சொல்கிறார். வைத்திருக்கும் குண்டுகள் வெடிக்காமல் இருக்க மும்பை, கோவை, அசாம் என பல இடங்களில் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான மக்கள் உயிரைக் குடித்த குண்டு வெடிப்புகளுக்குக் காரணமான நான்கு படுபயங்கர தீவிரவாதிகளை விடுவிக்கச் சொல்லி நிபந்தனை விதிக்கிறார்.

வேறு வழியில்லை… நிலைமையின் தீவிரம் புரிந்து தீவிரவாதிகளை விடுவிக்க ஒப்புக் கொள்கிறார் கமிஷனர். அதேநேரம் கமல்ஹாஸனின் இந்த செயலுக்கான பின்னணி, அவர் இருக்கும் இடத்தையும் காண முயற்சிக்கிறார் கமிஷனர்.

கமல்ஹாஸனின் நிபந்தனைப்படி தீவிரவாதிகள் நால்வரும் விடுவிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள். ஆனால் அவர்களில் ஒருவனை மட்டும் உடன் செல்லும் அதிரடிப்படை அதிகாரி திடீரென பிடித்துக் கொள்ள, மற்ற மூவரும் தப்பித்து அங்கு நிறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ள ஜீப்பில் ஏறுகிறார்கள். அடுத்த நொடியில் ஜீப் வெடித்துச் சிதற, அதிர்ச்சியில் உறைந்து போகிறது காவல்துறை.

அந்த நான்காவது நபரையும் கொல்ல வேண்டும் என கமலிடமிருந்து அடுத்த போன் வருகிறது. தொடரும் விவாதங்கள், மிரட்டல்களுக்குப் பிறகு அந்த நான்காவது தீவிரவாதியும் கொல்லப்படுகிறான்.

என்ன நடந்தது… ஏன் விடுவிக்கப்படும் தீவிரவாதிகள் கொல்லப்படுகிறார்கள் என்பதற்கு கமல் தரும் விளக்கங்கள் மீதி.

எந்தக் குண்டும் வெடிக்காமலேயே, எந்தக் கட்டடமும் சிதறாமலேயே அந்த எபெக்ட் படம் முழுக்க இருக்குமாறு பார்த்துக் கொண்ட இயக்குநர் சக்ரியைப் பாராட்ட வேண்டும்.

பொதுவாக இந்த மாதிரி படங்களில் முதல்வர் போன்ற பாத்திரங்கள் வரும்போது யாராவது டம்மி பீஸை காட்டி கடுப்பேற்றுவார்கள். ஆனால் கமல் தனது செல்வாக்கைப் பயன்படுத்தி நிஜ முதல்வரையே நடிக்க வைத்திருக்கிறார், குரல் மூலம்! படத்தில் காட்டப்படுவதும்கூட நிஜ முதல்வரின் வீடுதான்.

இதுபோன்ற நெருக்கடிக்கு மாநகரம் உள்ளாகும்போது, உயர்மட்ட அதிகாரிகள் படும் பாடு, நிலைமையைச் சமாளிக்க ஒரு நேர்மையான காவல்துறை அதிகாரி மேற்கொள்ளும் முடிவுகள், அதனால் சக அதிகாரிகளுடன் ஏற்படும் உரசல், தனது கீழ்நிலை அதிகாரிகளுடன் ஒரு கமிஷனர் கொண்டிருக்கும் நட்பு ரீதியிலான-அதேநேரம் கடமை மாறாத உறவு… இவற்றையெல்லாம் மிக மிக அருகிருந்து பார்ப்பதைப் போன்ற உணர்வை இந்தப் படம் ஏற்படுத்துகிறது.

முதல்வருக்கும் கமிஷனருக்கும் நடக்கும் உரையாடலின் ஒரு சிறு பகுதியைப் பாருங்கள்…

“நிலைமை எப்படியிருக்கு மாரார்?”

(ஆங்கிலத்தில்)”எல்லாம் கடவுளின் கையிலிருக்கிறது சார்!”

“அய்யய்யோ… அது சிக்கலான கையாச்சே”

தீவிரவாதம், அவர்களை ஒழிப்பதில் மென்மையான அணுகுமுறை காட்டும் அரசுகள் பற்றி கமல் பேசும் வசனங்களில் தனிமனிதனின் கோபத்துக்குள்ள வீரியம் தெறிக்கிறது.

ஆனால், “மும்பையில் குண்டுவெடித்தால் நாம் டிவியில் செய்தி பார்த்துவிட்டு, வேறு சானலுக்கு மாறுகிறோம். அதிலும் தமிழ்ச் சேனல்களில் அதைக் காட்டுவதுகூட இல்லை. காரணம் வேறு எங்கோ நடக்கிற உணர்வில் நாம் இருப்பதுதான். நாம பேசறது வேற மொழிதானே… எவனுக்கோ நடக்குது நமக்கென்ன என்ன அலட்சியம்…” என்று கமல் கூறும்போது அதை ஏனோ மனம் ஒப்பவில்லை.

இதற்குக் காரணம் இந்திய அரசும் அரசியல்வாதிகளும்தானே… தமிழ்நாட்டுக்காரன் இந்த நிமிடம் வரை வேறு நாட்டு பிரஜை மாதிரிதானே நடத்தப்படுகிறான்… அவனது குரலுக்கு ஏது மரியாதை… அவனது விருப்பத்தை எவன் கேட்கிறான். டெல்லியில் முடிவெடுத்துத் திணிப்பதுதானே காலம் காலமாய் நடக்கிறது. எனவே கமலின் இந்த வாதத்தை மட்டும் ஏற்க முடியவில்லை. ஆஸ்திரேலியாவில் உதைபடும் இந்தியனுக்காகவோ, மும்பையில் செத்துப்போன இந்தியனுக்காகவோ தமிழன் அலட்டிக்கொள்ளாமலே இருந்துவிட்டதன் காரணம் இதுதான்!

தமிழனுக்கு வந்த துன்பங்களுக்காக கவலைப்பட்ட இந்தியர்கள் எத்தனை பேர்? மும்பை குண்டுவெடிப்பை மையப்படுத்தித்தான் அவர்களால் படங்கள் செய்ய முடிந்தது. கோவை குண்டுவெடிப்பெல்லாம் அவர்களால் கண்டுகொள்ளப்படவே இல்லையே.

ஆகவே இந்த ஒரு கருத்தை அவர் சொல்லாமலேகூட விட்டிருக்கலாம். மனிதத்துக்கு எதிரான தீவிரவாதம் ஒழிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதில் மாற்றுக் கருத்தில்லை. அதில் ஒருமைப்பாடு பற்றிய ட்யூஷன் எதற்கு? நதியின் ஓட்டம் மேலிருந்து கீழ்நோக்கி பாய்வதுதான் இயல்பானது!

அதேநேரம் தீவிரவாதத்துக்கு மத முகமூடி மாட்டிப் பார்ப்பதில் அர்த்தமில்லை என்கிற வாதம் ஏற்கக் கூடியதே. தீவிரவாதமென்றாலே முஸ்லிம்கள்தான் என்று நிலை நிறுத்தாமல், இந்துக்களின் தீவிரவாதமும் சிறுபான்மையினரை குஜராத்தில் காவு கொண்டதை கதைக்குள் பதிவு செய்திருப்பது சாமர்த்தியமானது.

படத்தின் மிகச் சிறந்த அம்சம் பாத்திரங்களுக்கு தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டிருக்கும் கலைஞர்கள்… ஒவ்வொருமே ஒப்பற்ற மணிகளாய் ஜொலிக்கிறார்கள்.

படத்தில் தன்னை பின்னுக்கு நகர்த்திக் கொண்டு மோகன்லாலையே பிரதானப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார் கமல், அந்தப் பாத்திரத்தின் தன்மை அப்படி என்பதால்.

படம் பார்ப்பவர்களின் மனதை அப்படியே முழுமையாய் ஆக்கிரமிக்கிறார் மோகன்லால். நிச்சயம் இதைவிட பெட்டராக யாராலும் நடித்திருக்க முடியாது. அவரது மலையாளத் தமிழ் உச்சரிப்பு பாத்திரத்தின் நம்பகத் தன்மையை இன்னும் அதிகப்படுத்துகிறது. தீவிரவாதிகளை அழைத்துவர அனுப்பப்படும் தனது நம்பகமான இரு உயரதிகாரிகளுடனும் அவர் உரையாடும் காட்சி, குருஷேத்ரா மோகன்லாலை நினைவூட்டுகிறது.

உள்துறை அதிகாரியாக வரும் லட்சுமி யாதார்த்த நடிப்பைக் காட்டியிருக்கிறார். அவருக்கும் மோகன்லாலுக்கும் இடையே நிகழும் அந்த பனிப்போர்… எப்படியும் ஆளும் வர்க்கத்தின் கைகளில் பந்தாடப்படுவோம் என்ற நிச்சயமற்ற தன்மையை மோகன்லால் காட்டும் விதம்… ஹாட்ஸ் ஆஃப் மோகன்லால்!

ரிங் மாஸ்டர் கமல்…

இந்த முறை கமல் ரிங் மாஸ்டர் மாதிரி அமைதியாக உட்கார்ந்தபடி, ஆனால் தனக்கு-படத்துக்கு தேவையான அனைத்தையும் அதற்குத் தகுந்த கலைஞர்களிடமிருந்து சரியான விகிதத்தில் வாங்கியிருக்கிறார்.

தன் கண்முன் ஒரு சகோதரிக்கு நிகழ்ந்த கொடூரத்தை அவர் விவரிக்கும் போது, நம்மையுமறியாமல் கண்ணீர்.

எல்லாம் முடிந்ததும் மின்னல் வேகத்தில் அந்த சாதனங்களை மறைத்து கொளுத்திவிட்டு ஒன்றுமே நடக்காத மாதிரி காய்கறி பைகளோடு வெளியேறும் விதமும், கமிஷனரை எதிர்கொள்ளும்போது, குறுக்கிடும் போன்காலுக்கு அவர் பதில் சொல்லும் விதமும் டிபிகல் கமல் ஸ்டைல்!

அவர் யார் எனத் தெரிந்தும் கமிஷனர் விட்டுவிடப் போகிறார் என்பதை முன்கூட்டியே யூகித்துவிட முடிகிறது.

கணேஷ் வெங்கட்ராம், இந்தப் படத்தின் அட்டகாசமான, யாருமே எதிர்பாராத ஒரு பாத்திரம். அச்சு அசலான அதிரடிப் படை வீரரை கண்முன் நிறுத்துகிறார் மனிதர்.

பரத் ரெட்டி, ஸ்ரீமன், சிவாஜி, சந்தானபாரதி, அனுஜா, பூனம்.. அட கடைசியாக வரும் அந்த ஐஐடி ட்ராப் அவுட் என அனைவரது நடிப்புமே, ஒரு மில்லிமீட்டர் கூட பிசகாமல் அத்தனை கச்சிதம்!

ஒளிப்பதிவு, எடிட்டிங் என எதிலுமே முதல் தரத்தைத் தந்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஸ்ருதி பல இடங்களில் தனது இசையை மவுனிக்க வைத்திருப்பது புத்திசாலித்தனம். மற்றபடி ஒரு இசையமைப்பாளராக இதில் அவருக்கு பெரிய ஸ்கோப் இல்லை. அல்லா ஜானே… பாடலை கமல் பாடியிருக்கும் விதம் புதுசு.

‘இலக்கியம், ஜனரஞ்சகம், நவீனத்துவம் என எந்த வடிவிலிருந்தாலும் மக்களுக்காக செய்யப்படும் நல்ல கலைகள் என்றுமே தோற்பதில்லை’ என்பது நவீன இலக்கியத்தின் முன்னோடி மக்சீம் கார்க்கியின் வாக்கு. அதை உன்னைப்போல் ஒருவனும் நிரூபிக்கும்!

Today, he has come a long way, acting in over 150 films in various Indian languages. In his golden jubilee year in Tamil cinema, the 'Ulaganayagan' is eagerly awaiting the release of 'Unnaipol Oruvan', remake of Hindi hit 'A Wednesday'.

The movie produced by Raaj Kamal Films International in collaboration with UTV Motion Pictures brings together Kamal Haasan and Malayalam superstar Mohanlal for the first time. Directed by Chakri Toleti, the movie has musical score by Sruthi Haasan.

Says Kamal, "Terrorism is a major concern today. It is threatening to destroy our lives. The film talks about the agony and anger of an individual towards terrorism."

Noted Tamil writer Ee Raa Murugan will make his debut in the film industry as a dialogue writer, while writer Manushya Puthiran has penned the lyrics along with Kamal Haasan himself.

Kamal says, "We have opened the doors of cinema for two literary giants. Ace writer Ee Raa Murugan is making his debut as a dialogue writer, while Manushya Puthiran taking care of lyrics."

The movie was shot using state-of-the-art technology. It is canned on the famous RED camera. The film also stars Poonam, Ganesh Venkatraman, Sreeman, M S Baskar and Sivaji among others.

On sharing screen space with Mohanlal, Kamal says, "one of the great actors of our era, there was always a burning desire to act with Mohanlal. The camaraderie that we share should encourage others to cast multiple stars in their forthcoming movies."

Mohanlal, who plays a police commissioner in the movie, says, "The moment Kamal Haasan approached me to do the role, I had no hesitation in accepting it. We have been working hard to match the standards set by the original."

On opting for a remake, Kamal says, "even saint-poet Kambar was inspired by Valmiki's Ramayana. Isn't Kamba Ramayanam as good as the original? Jokes apart, whenever there are good movies in other languages, there is no harm in going in for a remake."

Chakri Toleti, who played a cameo as young photographer in Salangai Oli and more recently in Dasavatharam as Kamal's friend, says, "Directing two legends of Indian cinema is no easy task. They aim for perfection in whatever they do."

After keeping the movie buffs in suspense over its release due to its legal wrangles, Unnaipol Oruvan, the Tamil remake of ‘A Wednesday,’ produced by Raaj Kamal Films International has finally made it much to the relief of everyone associated with it. The job of director Chakri Toleti is easy and difficult – easy as a readymade story was in front of him and hard as he has to make the content relatable to Tamil audience. By and large, the film has remained loyal to the original script.

What could happen when a common man is pushed beyond his realms of patience and what are its consequences? Unnaipol Oruvan throws light on these issues and the triumph of humanity and its effect on national integration. Indirectly, the film says terrorism can only be held in check by terrorism.

UPO is about certain events that happen in one busy day in a Police Commissioner’s life. He receives an anonymous phone call asking for a release of four terrorists in police custody. Although the commissioner takes the call lightly, he realizes the seriousness of the issue soon and a group is formed to tackle the demands of this call. The gripping events that unfold subsequently are recounted in a riveting manner.

Mohanlal brings forth the responsible Police Commissioner and the unruffled manner in which he deals with a tense situation justifies his recent military award for acting. Kamal, as the angered citizen, has portrayed his emotions and feelings in the right measure. In the last few scenes, when he picks the vegetables from the ground in a composed manner suggests that he is after all an ordinary citizen. His pain and twinge are highly palpable when he is keen to finish off the terrorists. The sequences where Kamal has used his personal experience are enjoyable as regards to non-receipt of voters ID card.

All the characters have been understood and essayed perfectly by the artistes. Anuja Iyer, as the TV reporter, has risen up to the occasion and so does Ganesh Venkatram. Camera and music are in sync with the mood of the film and enhance the tension when required. Although UPO has its flaws, they are negligible when compared to the film in totality.

All in all, a brilliant work which will be appreciated by every socially responsible citizen of India.
