If there's a Krispy Kreme near you, don't be surprised if it's the nexus of a stampede. Today, June 6, is National Donut Day (who knew?), meaning you can score yourself a free circle of glazed goodness

Alas, my closest KK is 18.77 miles away; the gas would cost more than the donut. What does any of this have to do with technology? Nothing... but it's a free donut, people

NationalDonut Day (National Doughnut Day) is on the first Friday of June each year. Today (June 5, 2009) Holiday celebrates of the Doughnut day. Dough is an edible, ring-shaped piece, which is deep-fried and sweetened. Many U.S. doughnut stores offer free doughnuts on National Doughnut Day. This year 2009, both independent doughnut shops and large national franchises offered free doughnuts in the United States.

This isn't one of those made-up holidays, It began in 1938 as a fund raiser for the Chicago Salvation Army to help the needy during the Great Depression, and to honor the Salvation Army "Lassies" of World War I, who served doughnuts to soldiers behind the front lines in France during the war.
